Electricity networks empower energy innovators at the UK’s largest smart grid conference

The UK’s electricity networks are inviting all energy innovators, stakeholders, and pioneers to join them on 30-31 October for the ninth annual Low Carbon Network Innovation (LCNI) Conference in Glasgow. This year’s guest speaker is Paul Wheelhouse MSP, Minister for Energy, Connectivity and the Islands.

As innovation in energy is moving so quickly, this is the best place for stakeholders from the world of energy and beyond to come together to share ideas, best practice and look to take a whole systems approach to shape the future energy landscape.

Energy network companies are focused on rising to the challenges of decarbonisation, digitisation, and decentralisation. At this year’s LCNI Conference, they are not only looking to empower today’s energy innovators but also those of the future and are encouraging students from across the country to join in the debate.

The conference is hosted by Energy Networks Association and sponsored by SP Energy Networks. It brings together in one place all the UK’s and electricity network companies, government, regulators and the key industry spokespeople from across the country to provide attendees with a unique opportunity to engage and shape electricity network innovation.

Contributors this year include senior representatives from Scottish government, Ofgem, Good Energy, and Universities from across the country.

Scotland’s Energy Minister, Paul Wheelhouse, said:

“The energy networks are at the heart of the low carbon transition and we are recognised around the world for our approach to smart grids. It is great to see so many innovators and experts coming together at this year’s LCNI Conference in Glasgow.

“Scotland is incredibly well placed to help deliver the energy transition and, earlier this year, I was pleased to launch the Scottish Government’s ground-breaking 2030 vision for the energy networks. Empowering innovators and encouraging engineers of the future is absolutely crucial to delivering our vision and I look forward to joining everyone at the 2019 LCNI Conference.”

David Smith, Chief Executive of Energy Networks Association, said:

“The LCNI is the largest smart grid conference in the UK and this year promises to be better than ever. We have one of the most reliable networks in the world and we are recognised globally for our pioneering work on developing a smarter grid. We are active across the UK and we make sure that communities, households and businesses benefit from our activity. This event is a must-attend conference for anyone with an interest in that.

“The networks are rising to the challenge of delivering a smarter, low carbon and low cost energy system so there is a huge opportunity for consumers, for businesses and for energy innovators to take part. We look forward to warmly welcoming attendees to Glasgow to be part of it.”

Frank Mitchell, Chief Executive of SP Energy Networks, said:

“I’m delighted that SP Energy Networks is sponsoring the LCNI Conference which brings together leading stakeholders from across energy innovation. Energy network operators have a fantastic record of supporting the low carbon transition and with the UK’s net zero targets there has never been a more important time for innovation in the industry.

“SP Energy Networks is committed to ensuring our customers and the communities we serve continue to benefit from both our technical and commercial innovation as we head to a zero carbon economy.”
