Senior Power & Energy Systems Transition Engineer

The EIC has been established for the past decade and, thanks to continued growth and success, we have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer.  

The successful candidate will drive collaboration between the EIC industry partners (energy networks and beyond) and our global innovation community, to Discover, Develop and Deploy innovations which:

  1. will enable the transition to a smart, flexible, low cost and low-carbon energy system for all consumers and network users (including vulnerable customers). 

  2. Can deliver short or long term changes relating to health & safety, asset management, fault performance, environmental impact, customer service, cost efficiency.

In this exciting role, you will:

- Be responsible for developing a high level Energy Systems Transition EIC strategy, taking into account on-going initiatives in the Industry, and considering a whole system approaches.

- Be the main point of contact for technical queries relating to Electrical Power Systems

- Seek out new technologies, innovative SMEs and value-adding service providers 

- Assess, critique and launch tender opportunities and market research programmes on behalf of UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and

- Transmission Network Operators (TNOs) 

- Develop credible technology development and trial propositions, in conjunction with innovators, for consideration by industry and external investment partners 

- Assist with the technical due diligence required to support industry investment 

- Develop proposals and project plans for presentation to industry partners 

- Assist innovators in identifying potential markets for new technologies

- Support the delivery of projects and deployment of solutions

- Identify and manage issues and blockers in relation to project investment 

- Contribute to the growth and ambition of the EIC.

Innovation Project Manager

The EIC has been established for the past decade and, thanks to continued growth and success, we have a vacancy for an Experienced Innovation Project Manager based at our office in Ellesmere Port and willing to travel within the UK (circa 50%).


The successful candidate will:

1.    Develop and deliver innovation projects (from the EIC portfolio) for one of our DNO partners

2.    Work with both EIC and Partner teams to deliver the projects to agreed targets and facilitate implementation into Business as Usual.

3.    Report into the EIC Innovation Development workstream, and also our Partner project portfolio structure.

4.    Be responsible for linking with key Partner business units (including legal and procurement), to drive progress against the project targets, and ideally exceed them.

5.    Actively seek to identify blockers and recommend improvements to streamline processes


It is expected that the project manager will develop, co-ordinate and deliver a portfolio of projects, some of which will be collaborative with other EIC partners. Topics are likely to include improving network performance, optimising assets and practices, improving efficiency, decarbonising UK distribution networks, and facilitating the integration of low carbon technologies.


In this exciting role, you will:


·         Develop innovation projects and drive them through different stages of approval and delivery in order to ensure business as usual implementation. This will include drafting of the project plan, getting buy-in from stakeholders, and coordinating of contract approvals.

·         Manage the research, development, demonstration, and business-as-usual implementation of novel technologies and/or novel commercial arrangements

·         Coordinate cost-benefit analysis, prepare business cases and retrospective benefits assessments for new and existing innovation projects

·         Manage budgets

·         Ensure that projects are managed and delivered in compliance with relevant internal and external standards, procedures, and governance – e.g. Electricity Network Innovation Allowance Governance; including documentation & to comply with stage-gated governance and monthly project health reporting

·         Liaise with the supply chain/innovators, contractors, engineering experts, and/or partners’ installation resources - to ensure project delivery; to ensure also that they have adequate resources; to hold them accountable for time, cost, quality, health and safety, and environmental performance of their respective project tasks.

·         Manage project risks, issues, and changes as they arise; and where an issue needs to be escalated to senior management, prepare briefings, options, and expert advice to enable an effective and timely decision

·         Prepare and review project progress, deliverables and technical reports that are submitted to Ofgem and published in the public domain

·         Liaise with subject matter experts across the business and externally, and/or provide technical input where necessary

·         Ensure dissemination of knowledge and learning to internal and external stakeholders using a wide range of communications channels

·         Engage directly and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders at a senior level
