Non intrusive inspection methods using 3D/x-ray images of legacy bitumen compound filled cable boxes
The Problem / Solution
- The bitumastic compound within cable boxes is prone to leak over time and cause voids within the compound
- This can lead to customer outages as well as catastrophic explosions with metallic shards and hot bitumen being discharged over a large area
- Our partner currently visually inspects these cable boxes to check for leakage but this is an unreliable method
- They are looking for a device which can, using 3D/x-rays images, show the level and rate of leakage and also any voids within the bitumen compound.
