What’s the Problem?
As the UK electricity transmission network progresses towards net zero, National Grid is delivering an unprecedented programme of network investment, with £31bn planned over the next five years. This significant increase in infrastructure delivery is driving a corresponding rise in demand for specialist commissioning resources.
Every new transmission asset requires the expertise of commissioning engineers to ensure its commissioned safely, reliably and in accordance with operational standards before being energised. However, these highly specialised engineers are a limited resource and increasing project volumes are placing growing pressure on their availability. This increase in work volume is resulting in transmission system access windows becoming increasingly limited, placing greater emphasis on maximising the productivity and efficiency of on-site commissioning activities.
Preferred Output
NGET are seeking novel new technologies to improve the efficiency of their commissioning activities in one of the following ways:
- Provide a remote solution negating the need for technical resources to attend site
- Provide an automated solution to reduce the manual effort required from technical resources
- Improve the speed and efficiency at which commissioning activites are completed.
