What’s the Problem?
SP Energy Networks use Unimog Live Line Hands-On (LLHO) trucks to facilitate live line work, which is essential in maintaining continuity of supply and reducing the need for planned outages. However, the use of these trucks is often constrained in rural locations due to limited site access and poor ground conditions.
A significant proportion of live line work is carried out in remote fields that often have steep gradients and are prone to wet and boggy conditions. As a result, in extreme examples there is only a short window of two to three weeks per year when ground conditions are suitable for LLHO truck access. Where sites cannot be accessed, work may need to be deferred or completed de-energised, leading to an increase in:
- Operational complexity
- CI/CML occurrences
- Reputational damage.
Preferred Output
SP Energy Networks is seeking an easy-to-deploy solution that enables LLHO trucks to safely traverse steep and/or wet ground while causing minimal damage to land. The solution must be:
- Compliant with live line safety standards
- Compliant with existing operational procedures
- Reusable and retrofittable
- Cost effective when compared to hiring specialist equipment such as Morooka Trucks.
