What’s the Problem?
Many communities don’t have access to affordable or reliable internet connectivity, limiting their ability to engage with the increasing number of digitally based services provided by energy networks. Poor connectivity could exclude these communities from adopting some low carbon technologies (LCTs), potentially leading to them being left behind in the energy transition.
Preferred Output
Northern Gas Networks are looking for solutions that can improve digital inclusion in rural and vulnerable communities. They want to explore if current smart meter infrastructure could be used to support reliable internet access to areas across the UK that are underserved.
