When the gas supply is interrupted to a customer’s property it can cause major disruption and impact the customer’s quality of life, particularly those on the Priority Services Register (PSR).
For homes that utilise gas for cooking, heating and hot water, customers require provisional equipment to minimise disruption during these interruptions. Currently, customers can be provided with electric hot plates for cooking and fan heaters to keep warm; however, hot water provisions are not typically provided.
This results in customers trying to utilise their temporary cooking provisions (hotplates), to heat boiling water and move it around the home for use in bathrooms and kitchens for cleaning. This introduces a safety risk to the customer which must be avoided.
