Powering Community Energy

The path to net zero needs everyone to act and work collaboratively and the region’s electricity distribution network operator is playing a key part in facilitating the low carbon transition across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

Northern Powergrid and its partner, Regen, are inviting community energy groups, climate action groups and local authorities to register their interest to join a free online community energy training session focusing on community heat and retrofit, and learn how to help their local area decarbonise.

The online event taking place between 10am and 12.30pm on Thursday 3 October, is for organisations interested in community-based energy projects and will include presentations and discussion on:
•    Setting up an energy advice service in your community;
•    Delivering community-based retrofit programmes; and
•    Developing heat networks in local areas.

Registration and online attendance at the event is free and community groups can book their place online.

Ella Pinder, Northern Powergrid’s Vulnerability Policy Manager said: “Northern Powergrid is a trusted voice in our sector to help address the climate emergency and we want to ensure community energy stakeholders have the advice they need from us, and our partners, to make informed choices.

“By working together with Regen we can deliver better outcomes for all - supporting the growth of community energy and low carbon technology in our region. We recognise the range of organisations and community groups interested in the net zero transition and aim to make all training sessions accessible to everyone.”

Alex Robertson, Regen’s Local Net Zero Project Manager added: “We’re pleased to work in partnership with Northern Powergrid to deliver training and support to help local energy groups drive positive change in their communities.

“Attendees can engage with fellow community energy organisations and expert voices from the sector. There will be the opportunity to learn about the inspiring work of peers delivering energy advice services, retrofit programmes and community heat networks, and discuss how groups can deliver more of these programmes in their communities.
